Product Description

Product Description
C17510 (CuNi2Be) COPPER NICKEL BERYLLIUM INTRODUCTION:
Copper Nickel beryllium alloys are among the most versatile and high-performance copper-based materials available, prized for their unique balance of mechanical strength, thermal conductivity, electrical conductivity, and corrosion resistance. Within this family, C17510, also referred to as Copper-Beryllium-Nickel Alloy, stands out as a high conductivity grade that bridges the gap between pure copper and the stronger but less conductive beryllium-rich alloys like C17200. By integrating a small percentage of beryllium with nickel as a secondary alloying element, C17510 provides an outstanding combination of electrical performance, resistance to thermal softening, and mechanical durability, making it a material of choice for demanding electrical, electronic, and industrial applications.

KEY CHARACTERISTICS
Mechanical Properties
Tensile strength typically ranges from 700 to 900 MPa after age hardening.
Yield strength values of 500–700 MPa can be achieved, depending on temper and processing.
Hardness levels reach approximately Rockwell C 25–35, which is sufficient for most medium-load applications.
These properties provide good wear resistance and allow components to withstand mechanical stresses without deformation.
Electrical and Thermal Conductivity
Electrical conductivity ranges between 45–60% IACS, which is significantly higher than other high-strength copper alloys.
Thermal conductivity is also strong, allowing rapid dissipation of heat in contact and resistance welding applications.
This dual advantage makes C17510 highly desirable for connectors, contacts, and other current-carrying components.
Corrosion and Oxidation Resistance
C17510 demonstrates excellent resistance to corrosion in industrial atmospheres, marine environments, and exposure to industrial chemicals. The protective copper oxide layer that forms on its surface enhances long-term durability, while nickel improves stability under oxidizing conditions.
Resistance to Softening
One of the most significant advantages of C17510 is its ability to maintain mechanical strength and conductivity at elevated temperatures. Unlike pure copper, which softens rapidly when exposed to heat, C17510 resists softening and retains its properties up to 315°C (600°F), ensuring reliability in high-temperature electrical environments.
Non-Magnetic and Spark Resistant
Like other beryllium coppers, C17510 is non-magnetic and spark resistant, which is particularly important in aerospace, defense, and hazardous environments where ignition risks must be minimized.
TYPICAL APPLICATIONS
Electrical and Electronic Components
Connectors, terminals, and contacts: C17510 is frequently used in high-performance electrical connectors and switches that require reliable conductivity and resistance to wear.
Relay and switch parts: The alloy provides consistent performance under repeated electrical cycling, with minimal wear or loss of spring properties.
Lead frames and integrated circuit components: Its thermal conductivity and dimensional stability ensure reliable semiconductor packaging.
Resistance Welding and Electrodes
Welding tips, shanks, and holders: In resistance welding, materials must conduct large currents while resisting deformation from heat and pressure. C17510 delivers the right combination of strength and conductivity for medium-duty electrodes and backup tooling.
Spot welding caps: Especially in the automotive industry, C17510 is applied in the production of spot welds where durability and conductivity are required.
Aerospace and Defense
Avionics components: Electrical reliability in high-temperature environments makes C17510 useful in aircraft electronic systems.
Defense electronics and radar systems: Its non-magnetic and spark-resistant properties are beneficial for sensitive defense equipment.
Oil and Gas Industry
Used in downhole drilling tools, connectors, and contact components where corrosion resistance, spark resistance, and reliability are crucial.
Automotive Industry
Applied in hybrid and electric vehicle systems for connectors, power distribution units, and contactors that must withstand high currents and elevated temperatures.
General Industrial Applications
Springs and diaphragms: Components requiring both elasticity and conductivity.
Rotors, switches, and circuit breakers: C17510's wear resistance and conductivity extend service life.
Aerospace Components
C17510 is widely used in the aerospace industry for critical components such as landing gear bushings, bearings, connectors, and fasteners. Its combination of high strength, fatigue resistance, and dimensional stability under extreme conditions makes it suitable for aerospace applications where both reliability and performance are essential.
